Sick, sick, sick

We have been living in the cycle of sick children at our house.  It all started with Maggie getting an ear infection about 3 weeks ago.  Then Elliot got an eye infection.  The Grace started complaining that her head hurt, which turned into a fever that lasted about 8 days!!  I took her to the doctor twice, only to be told that it was "just a virus".  She missed a whole week of school.  About the time Grace was getting better, Maggie started getting sick again.  She has a horrible cold, has had a fever and we found out today that she has pink eye!!  Elliot was diagnosed with a double ear infection today.  Will it ever end?!  I don't even want to think about how many times we have been to the doctor/urgent care (on weekends).  Thank goodness for insurance, that's all I have to say about that!  This has made me realize that I really need to be more diligent about hygiene-every time I pick up Grace at school she will get her hands wiped down and use hand sanitizer.  The same goes for church, grocery store, friend's houses, etc.  If anyone has any suggestions for a homeopathic immune system booster for kids I am totally open to it!

On a lighter note, Maggie had her 9 month well baby visit today (how ironic is that) and she is in the 35th % for height and the 95th % for weight.  How cute is that!  She is so roly poly and squishy.  I love it!!

Awwww, I want to see a picture of roly poly Maggie standing up! Take one for me, will you? I still think of her as a newborn baby that just lays there and smiles, eats, and cries. I can't imagine her as a crawler.

Honey your singing to choir when it comes to sick kids! I have been there and did that for 7 years!! Keeping their hands out of their mouths and eyes will help. Their hands are always dirty. I put all washable plastic toys in the dishwaster all the time, and used lots of lysol. I put the toothbrushes in boiling water to keep germs from getting on everyone elses brush. clean door nobs and light switches. Keep wet wipes on hand, and always make them clean their hands off with them before they stick anything in their mouth. For more desperate care, we did the zoning with Bailey, it worked miracles, but is expensive, now they take treeflower oil that I get from an old lady who works in the Idaho Falls Temple. It seems to cure all if you can catch it right when it starts. You can make it yourself if you can find good quality oils. I just buy it from her. I don't think your little ones would take it yet. It is strong and tastes bad at first. Maybe even try ear muffs or something to cover their ears when they go out, see if that helps with the ear infections. I feel for you, and my heart is with you. I know how hard it is to be the parents of sick children. Lots of love, Jamie

Valerie makes me SMILE! I love her!!! This is the first comment I have seen her leave EVER. YAY!

I would say that my best experience has been with vitamin C- flintstone's vitamins- or my favorite, orange juice. I bet Maggie does not get that treat yet, but it is great for grace and elliot. The worker of wonders for Valerie and I both has been Celestial Seasonings tea- it used to be called "Mamma Bear's Tea" now it is "Echinacea Complete Care." I think it is magic and lo and behold, you can buy it at any grocery store. As preventative, hand-sani is the best, I bet.

Also... "just a virus" causes more debilitating sickness than bacteria, but viruses have no cure, so they are truly awful until overcome by the body. Poor Gracie. I hope she is all better now.

Gosh Becky, your family is so cute. I didn't know that you had a third already. She is adorable. I bet it is fun having girls. I have 3 boys, and they are all boy through and through.
I found that once my kids started school the germs were inevitable. You are on the right track of having them wash their hands, but be careful when it comes to anti bacterial soap. It works a little too well in that it washes off germs and bacteria that are important for your kids immune systems to develop. The pink eye thing is no good. We went through that. It started with one kid and spread to the other two like wild fire. Just make sure they wash hands often and espesially after touching their eyes, which is inevietable. Hope everyone starts getting better soon. It is no fun having all three sick at the same time.

i agree becky, maybe you could have them just wash with good soap instead of antibacterial. you want them to be clean, but. it is just a balancing act all the time, this motherhood stuff. but, eventually you will get to where i am, and it is the greatest, but more worries with grandchildren. just listen to those maternal holy ghost promptings. they will save the day. xo mom
