3 Weeks

I love where I live.
These are really bad pics, I took them with my phone while I was running.
I love that I live within blocks of this. It makes for nice running.

I have heard that it takes 3 weeks to make or break a habit. Yesterday it was exactly 3 weeks since Ray and I quit drinking caffeine. I feel great! I'd be lying if I said I don't miss it at all, but I don't want my body to by physically dependent on anything except food and water ever again. I think it is official. Bad habit broken!

I ran 7 miles this morning in an hour and 15 minutes. There were hills, lots of them. I didn't stop, just sayin'. I realized that when you run up a bunch of big hills, the rest of the run feels like a cake walk. I ran 6 miles last week, but this week was much easier, even with the hills. I think the carb loading last night helped. I didn't go crazy, just ate a big plate of pad thai ;)

cool! congrats! I think the hardest challenge last year for ry was giving up diet coke, but he did, and I'm so proud of him. Don't you feel so much better!? :)

Good job on the caffeine thing! I really should try that with ice cream. And I can't pass up a chance to encourage a fellow runner. Way to go! 7 miles is a big milestone, seriously. Then it's like, pshaw I could do 3 more to make it 10, no biggie!
I am so axnious to start running again. Just a few more weeks and I'm so out there!

Doesn't it feel great to be caffeine-free? So awesome that you ran 7 miles today. You're amazing!

Just to warn you - there will be some days that you feel totally great/not great for no apparent reason whatsoever. It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong on the bad days, it's just that sometimes there are bad days! (I'm sure the carbs helped though!) Once upon a time, I ran 16 miles one weekend and felt awesome, and the next weekend I ran 12 and it felt like the hardest thing I ever did. Those are the hardest days to train. But just remember, if you can run on those days, you can definitely run the race. :)

I can say, "ditto" to Abby's comments. So, remember them if you have a bad run. 7 miles is awesome, Beck! You are on your way to a half marathon girl! Keep going.......

Soon the old caffeine urge will seem insignificant... because by then you'll be addicted to endorphins.

Seriously though,I'm proud of your resolve. I've been there, and I know how hard it can be to maintain a marathon running schedule. That's why you don't see me going back.

I stopped drinking Coke on September 30th. I really do feel better, but I miss the ritual of the drive-thru, the afternoon break and the total thirst quench. But my 6-year-old granddaughter says with pride, "Oma gave up coke because it's not that healthy." She's keeping me straight.
